Left (L) or right (R)? How to tell fan blade rotation

Ordering the wrong hand is the most common mistake. How to find the right direction in seconds.

The letter at the end of the code

The L or R at the end of a Multi-Wing profile code shows the rotation: 4ZL is left-hand, 4ZR right-hand. If the label or blade-root marking is readable, it’s easy.

If the label is unreadable

Look at the impeller from the air outlet side. The impeller turns in the direction its leading edge moves: clockwise means right-hand (R), anticlockwise left-hand (L). If unsure, photograph the impeller from both sides and upload the pictures to your quote list.

Pusher and puller applications

With the same motor direction, blowing and suction arrangements can need opposite-hand blades. If you are changing the system, go by the airflow direction of the new installation rather than the old blade.
