Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Fan Blades
Multi Wing fan blades for HVAC/R: choosing the right profile and material for condensers, dry coolers, chillers, cooling towers and cold rooms.
The role of the fan blade in HVAC/R systems
In heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems, heat is carried by the air passing through coils. The fan blade that moves this air directly determines the system’s capacity, energy use and noise level. The wrong profile or pitch makes the compressor run longer, raises condensing pressure and wastes energy.
Multi-Wing modular blades stand out in HVAC/R equipment because they can be configured to the duty point. By changing the number of blades and the pitch on the same hub, the fan can be fine-tuned to the coil resistance and target airflow.
Which profile for which equipment?
For condensers and evaporators, Z series airfoil profiles such as 3Z, 4Z and EMAX4 are the efficiency-focused standard. For condensers close to residential areas with night-time noise limits, the 1Z, 2Z2 and 7Z sickle profiles are preferred.
In dry coolers and chillers, W series profiles such as 6W and 9W2 deliver high airflow at large diameters. Cooling towers use G series profiles like 10G and 1G at diameters up to 2.7 metres; because of high humidity, PAG or PPG material and proper corrosion protection matter.
In cold rooms and blast freezers the material must stay tough below −40 °C, which is why PAG family materials rated down to −60 °C are the common choice.
Energy efficiency and ErP
European ErP/ESPR regulations set tighter fan efficiency targets every year. An impeller installed at the right pitch, with minimal tip clearance and—where needed—winglets or EPS extensions, moves more air with the same motor. For new equipment, complete EC fans such as the C-Series and L-Series save significant energy at part load through speed control.
Information we need for a quote
The current fan’s diameter, number of blades, profile code (e.g. 800/6-6/30/PAG/6ZL/38/10/82/A on the label), rotation and motor speed speed up the quote. If you don’t know them, no problem: add the product to your quote list and write the dimensions or a photo link in the note field.
